When you are considering parenthood or are already pregnant
Just thinking about bringing a child into the world can precipitate a cascade of intense feelings. These may be connected to experiences from your own infancy and childhood, concerns about the current state of our world and culture, issues of loss connected to miscarriage, and various other sources. Beginning treatment at this stage will provide you with help and support as you discuss your hopes and fears and begin your transition into motherhood.
In the first year of your baby’s life
A baby’s first year is the beginning of a profound psychological transformation in a woman’s life. The intensity of the emotions a new mother experiences can be overwhelming. Your baby impacts other important relationships in your life. You may have concerns about your baby’s development. You will want to create a relationship with your child that will ensure that she or he thrives both physically and emotionally. Counseling can help with all of these issues and more.
When you have a toddler
Toddlers are funny and fun, and also frustrating and challenging. Learn to meet the many challenges your toddler brings to you in a group with other mothers and toddlers. Groups are limited to six mother-toddler pairs. Groups meet weekly for 1 ½ hours. I facilitate the groups with the assistance of a trained aide who is present specifically to focus on the toddlers.
When you have a preschooler
Children face special issues as they go off to preschool. Saying goodbye to Mommy, getting along with other children, sharing the attention of a new adult who is their “teacher,” and making themselves understood to others with their newly emerging words can present special problems to some children. Play therapy helps the child who is having difficulty with the preschool transition.
Preschool consultation
Preschool directors and teachers have told me; “I knew something was wrong, I just didn’t know what it was.” I can work with the preschool staff, the family, and the child to assess a child’s challenges and formulate a plan to address them. Preschool consultation includes milieu therapy as needed.

For you and your partner or spouse
Research indicates that marital satisfaction is at its lowest point during a couple’s child-raising years, but disruption between partners isn’t inevitable. You can keep your relationship fresh, fun, and satisfying. Contact me; we will work together to keep your partnership strong.
Treating and preventing Postpartum Depression
Postpartum Depression is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition that affects an estimated ten percent of new mothers. Postpartum depression is not a character flaw or a weakness. Sometimes it is simply part of giving birth. If you have postpartum depression, prompt treatment can help you manage your symptoms and enjoy your baby.
